Lots more activities this week to help the children recognise different coins and to begin to explore their values.
Show your child different coins. Can he/she see that they are different sizes and colours?
Can he/she read the numerals on the coins?
Practise sorting a pile of coins into groups of the same value.
Use a piece of thin paper and a pencil or wax crayon to make rubbings of the different coins.
Start with a pile of 10 x 1p coins.
How many ways can you share these out between 2 people?
e.g 9 and 1, 5 and 5, 4 and 6 etc.
Who has the most coins? Who has the least?
Use 1p, 2p. 5p and 10p coins.
How many ways can you make 10p altogether?
Practise finding different ways to use the coins to pay for the pets in your pet sale.
And here is an inter-active game to practise coin recognition and making different amounts of money.
