Nests- Counting and Calculating.

Can you find some containers that you can pretend are nests? You could use bowls, dishes, yoghurt pots, plant pots etc...

Now find some objects that you can pretend are eggs- stones, beads, marbles, rolled up balls of paper....

To begin with, use just one 'nest'.

Place some eggs in the nest. Can you check how many you have got by taking them out of the nest one at a time, saying a number name for each one you remove?

Write numerals 1 to 10 on some small pieces of paper or card. Turn them over so you can't see the number. Choose one at a time. Can you read the number, then place the correct number of eggs in the nest?

Now use two 'nests'.

Place 2 eggs in one nest. Put four eggs in the other nest.

How many eggs are there altogether?

Place some eggs in one nest and some in the other.

Which nest has the most eggs?

Which nest has the least eggs?

Can you make it so the nests have the same number of eggs?
