Literacy- Reading and Writing

Reading

There are lots of different farm animals in our 'What the Ladybird Heard' story.

Can you remember all their names?

Think about the sounds you can hear at the beginning of all these animal names- h for hen, d for duck, g for goose etc...

Ask your grown-up to show you how these animal names are written down

(grown-ups, please remember to use lower case letters, thankyou!)

How many times can you spot each animal's name written down in the story?

Here is a game about recognising different farm animals which will help you hear their initial sounds too.

Writing-Challenge 1.

In our story, 'Lanky Len' and 'Hefty Hugh' are the burglars who try to steal the fine prize cow.

Did you make up a burglar name for yourself? I think I might be 'Brainy Baines'!!

Can you design a 'Wanted' Poster for yourself??

You can draw a picture of yourself dressed up like a burglar- try to write your burglar name, and tell people about what you might have been trying to steal. Is their a reward if the police catch you?!

Writing- Challenge 2.

Can you draw pictures of the animals from the story?

Now ask your grown-ups to show you how to draw a speech bubble coming from the animal's mouth. Can you try to write the sound the animal makes- 'moo', 'baa', 'cluck' etc...

Think carefully about all the sounds you can hear and try to write them.
